Chick-fil-A meets Texas Health Dallas

I recently covered an event for Texas Health Dallas.  I was super excited to be a part of history-making.  Chick-fil-A was having their grand opening, ribbon cutting, first bite ceremony at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital!

iLOVE that Chick-fil-A is closed on Sunday’s and here is why.

Why Chick-fil-A is Closed on Sundays:

Chick-fil-A’s founder, Truett Cathy, made the decision to close on Sundays in 1946 when he opened his first restaurant in Hapeville, Georgia. He has often shared that his decision was as much practical as spiritual. He believes that all franchised Chick-fil-A Operators and their Restaurant employees should have an opportunity to rest, spend time with family and friends, and worship if they choose to do so. That’s why all Chick-fil-A Restaurants are closed on Sundays. It’s part of their recipe for success.

Oh what fun, it is to ….

I am a huge fan of traditions and THIS year’s Holiday Cookie delivery had a bit of a twist to it!  At the end of every year iLOVE to go around and deliver AMAZING Holiday Cookies to my clients, however, the twist this year was a trip to Norcostco first for this AMAZING costume.  Even enjoyed lunching at one of my most favorite places, Asian Buffet in Arlington.

2016 is going to be an EPIC year of fun adventures, surprises and MORE.

Balancing Blue Light

Recently I did a portrait of a doctor in Denton TX and when we arrived to the location I noticed the glass in the hallway (where we wanted to shoot), was tinted slightly blue.
I realized that the color temperature of my strobe was around 5200K (all lighting manufacturers aim for 5200K daylight balance).  I needed to be closer to somewhere around 3200K – 3300K.
So, what I decided to do was gel the strobes to match the the light coming in the window.  I used an 1/8 CTB on the main light as well as the kicker light.  Once I had the colors balanced between my main light and the ambient light, I realized that the main light was being effected by the ambient light.  The next thing I needed to do was to put up a 6×6 scrim to knock down the amount of ambient light coming in (we just taped it to the glass).  To have more control over all the ambient light coming in, we added a black 6×6 over about 1/2 of the other scrim we had already taped up.  Now, the key light for this portrait was looking much more like I wanted it to look.

Finally,we ended up having to use a gobo to flag off some unwanted light that was spilling in on the doctor.  NOTE: the 3rd light we used was just to add more light towards the end of the hallway. Since the lighting towards the information desk was warmer, we didn’t use a gel. Instead, we just used a reflector, pointed the light towards the ceiling and let it add a little more natural looking lighting.  I also used a reflector (next to the doctor) to bounce light back around him.

By the way, I like to shoot directly to iPad for on-site proofing.
I use CamRanger and also use Shutter Snitch coupled with the Eye-Fi card.  That enabled the doctor to choose his preferred images.

From the entire shoot, THIS was his ‘favorite’ shot.  Photo was taken with my D800 and a 135mm lens.  [ISO 500 | f5.6 | 1/250].

Thanks to Mary

Another HUGE thanks to Mary for the A M A Z I N G cookie treats she put together for me this year.
The only directive I gave her was “do what YOU do best”.  All of my clients who received these were WOWed & TOUCHed beyond belief!

Driven by Passion

I was recently on an assignment and met a woman that was driven by her passion.
Passion can be defined as an intense, driving, or overmastering feeling or conviction, as well as a strong liking or desire for or devotion to some activity, object, or concept.

Her passion was about flags and the respect of them. http://www.usflag.org/flagetiquette.html.

The flag she was so passionate about was not being flown properly …

When we had the chance to look again at the flag, her PASSION had driven her to the proper authorities & the flag was waving proudly for all to see.

I was inspired that day by someone who stands up for what they so strongly believe in.

Simply committed

I was recently on assignment for Texas Health Resources documenting the Heart Walk 2013 event in Fort Worth.  http://www.texashealth.org/heart-walk

The theme this year is Committed to Community.
When I saw THIS guy, I thought to myself … HE is just simply committed.

I was very inspired by his dedication.
